Philip II of Macedon.
[ send me this paper ]
(10 pp) Who was buried in the tomb below? In early
1977 it was thought to be Philip II, son of Amyntas,
king of the Macedonians and Captain General of the
united Greeks, created an understandable sensation,
and aroused world-wide interest in this extraordinary personality - father of Alexander the Great, one of the greatest Macedonian kings, and also one of the most important political figures of antiquity. Alexander still holds the title of one of the great conquerors; all of that would have been much more difficult if his war-like father had not paved the way.
Bibliography lists 6 sources (photo of external
tomb included).

Poverty in America
[ send me this paper ]
This 25 page report discusses poverty in America and its impact on quite nearly every problem in America - crime, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, AIDS, spouse abuse, malnutrition, school drop-out rates and more. Since the 1960s and 1970s, policymakers have fiercely debated the appropriate role of government in providing solutions to these problems. Treating only the symptoms of poverty is costly, and trying to eliminate poverty by isolating the poor sacrifices the approach proven to be most effective: integration into mainstream society. This report examines some of the most significant impacts of poverty in modern America. Bibliography lists 22 sources.

Progress and Civilization
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page opinion paper answering the question, “Does progress make civilizations more civilized?” The paper discusses the civilization of the ancient Greeks and Aristotle’s belief that the highest form of existence is in leading the contemplative life. It compares the Greeks some of their neighbors, and discusses the advanced civilization of the native tribes of North America. The September 11 terrorist attacks, drive-by shootings and the discovery of hundreds of unburied bodies at a crematorium are far less civilized than pre-colonization Cherokee death rituals. Progress brought the ability to live with less personal responsibility for one’s own actions. The paper concludes that we absolutely are no more civilized as a result of the technological progress we have made. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
