Henry Serruys' "The Mongols And Ming China : Customs And History": Hung-Wu And The Mongols
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Henry Serruys' account of the Hung-Wu period (1386-1398) in "The Mongols and Ming China : Customs and History" draws upon the author's literary talents, as well as the sordid historical events that revolve around China's Mongols during this period. This detailed analysis
provides the reader with a scope of knowledge both vast and explicit, with the book's aim being that of a comprehensive critical overview of how China's Mongols managed to rule for the better part of a century. Indeed, the sources upon which Serruys draw are instrumental in his ability to portray this era as one of China's most powerful. Clearly,
the method by which the author assembles the work, as well as his complementary writing style, brings forth the underlying reasons that such a forceful period existed in China's past and what its people have learned from such events, which represent the book's larger issues. No additional sources cited.

Hong Kong Migration Advisers
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page research paper that offers a summation and analysis of an article on Hong Kong migration from 1994 and the role of migration advisers. In 1994, there were more than 100 companies in Hong Kong specializing in offering consulting services to potential migrants to other countries (Hardie, 1994). Migration in the 1980s and early 1990s was spurred as a direct consequence of fears generated by the impending retrocession of Hong Kong to China (Vickers and Kan, 2003). During this period, thousands of people, frequently professionals, migrated overseas, usually to Australia, Canada or New Zealand, in order to secure foreign nationality for themselves and their families (Vickers and Kan, 2003). By having a member of the family obtain foreign citizenship, a family was perceived as having a "bolt-hole abroad in the event of political or economic repression of the post-1997 (Chinese) regime" (Vickers and Kan, 2003, p. 179). In his detailed study, Hardie (1994) examines the role of the migrant adviser in the processes spurring the exodus from Hong Kong during this time. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Human Rights and Sovereignty
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing when outside forces should
intervene. Nations are indeed sovereign entities, and they need to be regarded as such.
When it becomes obvious that they are actively abusing the rights of their own citizens,
however, then outside forces need to intervene. The decision may not be politically
popular, but it is morally right. Taking that path benefits all involved, and the benefits of
the action outweigh the negatives associated with momentarily violating a nation's
sovereignty. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
