The Lowell Offering is a book which is a compilation of narratives by the mill working woman. These women were free and worked for a wage. In Frederick Douglass's book he was a slave and later became a free man. There are many similarities and differences but the question that needs to be addressed and answered, based on these two works, is whether or not the institution of slavery was better at taking care of the worker than the industries that offered them jobs.
