“Precarious Employment” and Industrial Relations in Australia
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page report discusses “precarious employment” in Australia and how it has served as a means through which industrial relations have been reshaped and re-defined. Such employment can be defined as labor that is of limited duration, pays low wages, and offers few or no opportunities for employee input in policies or procedures. It ultimately subverts the concept of work as a means of personal betterment. “Working Class Majority” and “Nickel and Dimed”
[ send me this paper ]
A comparison of the content and message contained in these books by Michael Zweig and Barbara Ehrenreich. Both are concerned with the definition of class in America and the societal factors which interact to define the respective classes. While Zweig approaches the problems of class in America from a statistical perspective Ehrenreich takes a slightly different approach, shedding her identity as an award-winning journalist and infiltrating blue collar America as an unskilled worker. "12 Angry Men" - Group/Team Dynamics
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The premise of 12 Angry Men shows how human (mis)perception, ego, prejudice and close-mindedness holds a wide variance of potential harm. Brought together to deliberate the fate of an accused murderer, the jury learns a lot about their own shortcomings - and eventual enlightenment - throughout the process of reaching a verdict. The 1957 film was instrumental in demonstrating how a group of opinionated, angry men who refuse to believe there is any other viewpoint but their own can be damaging to a just outcome; only when they are guided by the collective components of group dynamics do they finally realize the danger of assuming everything is as it seems at face value and why analyzing situations beyond the obvious facts carries a tremendous weight in reaching the right conclusion. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
