Drug Abuse in the Prison Population

Since the 1980s, concern for the role that substance abuse plays in crime and recidivism has gained national attention. A number of studies have been conducted to consider the problem of substance abuse and crime, especially in criminal populations, but few studies have been conducted to consider whether in-house substance abuse treatment programs in the prison setting actually reduce recidivism.
